A city car that was introduced in Britain in 1999, the Lupo happens to be the smallest member of the Volkswagen family of cars with dimensions of 11’7” length and 5’5” width. This compact car came to be manufactured with different engine sizes and trim levels right from the low-budget economical versions to the highly acclaimed hot hatch, the Lupo GTI. The line of Lupos was into production till 2005, following which it was replaced by the Volkswagen Fox.
Named after the Latin word for ‘wolf’, this car was initially launched as a 1.0 litre 50 bhp E model, a 1.4 litre 75 bhp S model, and a 1.7 litre diesel engine with 60 bhp. The engine configuration caused to be altered in subsequent versions and ultimately culminated production a little after the VW Lupo GTI version was unveiled. The GTI was with its 1.6 16 V engine that had an output of 125 bhp, though great in terms of looks, was not exactly considered economical.
Another version of the more recent Volkswagen Lupo is the Sport with its 1.4 litre 100 bhp petrol engine which hits 62 mph in a period of 12.3 seconds. With fabulous accessories that adorn the dashboard and sporty seats that offer much support, the Lupo Sport is one vehicle that offers a pure driving experience.
The small size of the Lupo results in its storage area and the inside cabin being restricted greatly, but with some slight seat adjustments, the head and shoulder room can be manipulated to obtain a degree of comfort, especially during short-distance travel.
The Lupo also offers an option of a colour concept pack by which it is possible to colour code all the accessories like leather seats, headrests, door trims, handbrake, steering wheel cover, gear lever gaiter and the alloy wheels.
